KLANG NEW BALANCE 12KM RUN 4 IT 2010 RACE

31 October 2010. The Klang pacesetter club organised the New Balance 12km race that start at Padang Sultan Sulaiman , was flagged off at 6:50 for men category A, B & C and Women category D, E and F a few minutes later.

In a convoy of 2 cars, Daing Daniel Fitri, Rose Emini Pahamin, Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob, Nyna Mohsen and Ody Nurfuadi Razalli arrived just-in time for the flag off. The weather was runners-friendly but there were less participants this year compared to previous years. We have been a regular at the Klang New Balance Race.

A moment before the race began, we met Viki Lim and her 4hours-marathoner husband Jeffery Wong. Viki Lim a mother of three beautiful children is also a  blogger at Here. She blogs more of family and domestic interest but the blog needs a bit of updating.

The starting was a tiring uphill route. I cruised slowly at a heart rate of 155bpm listening to the early millennium hip hop and R&B but changes the tempo to a more aggressive hardcore trance to speed the running pace but slowed down to comfortably pace at heart rate 160bpm which was already 86% of max HR. There were too many recent death while running and I cannot be part of that statistic but it was tempting to go redline.

At kilometer 3, the first lady runner sprinted passed me and followed by 5 others before Nawal Aini Zulkifli by-passed me at kilometer 6. Daing Daniel Fitri was no where within sight. He should be way infront with the sprinters.

Although I was hoping to cross that 10km mark in less than 1 hour, it actually took me 1:05:08. My left knee that had served me well since birth, gave way at KM 9. My problematic right knee was at its best behavior and I was thankful that both knee did not throw tantrum the same time. It was also a blessing in disguised.... if both the knees were okay, I would have been far too kiasu and went overboard that could endanger the heart and health. There is always the positive side of any obstacle.

I 'pia' that last 1km after reading the big mileage board that reads "1 KM"... that 1 last kilometer felt eternal... a few meters before the crossing line, I heard a loud scream... "ARMIN!!!..." it was Nawal Aini Zulkifli smiling happily to encourage my last few meters. I crossed the finishing line in 1:20 hours (flag-off time) though my polar read 1:19hours.

Nawal Aini Zulkifli (BIB D4145) won 9th placing in Women's Open category but could not collect her prize when the organiser insisted ONLY RUNNERS WITH AN IDENTITY CARD IS ALLOWED TO COLLECT PRIZES???

I find it stupid and silly for the organiser to insist on an IDENTITY CARD. Which idiot would run carrying their IDENTITY CARD along? The organiser whom was arrogant and as if we were hard-up and desperate for the prizes, insisted in his arrogant tone: NO IDENTITY CARD, NO PRIZE!!

For whatever reason they may have which I am sure they do have a good reason, there must be other way to verify the runner than the idiotic NO IDENTITY CARD NO PRIZE policy. I still cant believe this. An organiser depriving a runner of their heart-pumping, sweat-pouring prize because she did not bring along her identity card? Ceh...

If there was another flaw in the Klang New Balance race, it must be the road pollution. The route were dusty and polluted with exhaust fume that made it very unhealthy to breath and run.

Since we run for fun and promote a healthy lifestyle through running, we left the place without the prize, before even the lucky draw and probably wont participate again next year given the polluted route and the idiotic no-bargain policy.

With 1,400 calories burn and a 1 hour 20 minutes Personal Best, it was a fulfilling Sunday. CONGRATULATION again to NAWAL AINI ZULKIFLI for the 9th placing (even without KLANG PACE-SETTER'S Prize), Daing Daniel Fitri for completing the 12km in 56 minutes and getting his PB, Ody Nurfuadi Ruzali for completing in 1 hour 16 minutes, Rose Emini Pahamin 1 hour 22 minutes, Nyna Mohsen 1 hour 22 minutes, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob 1 hour 23 minutes, Viki Lim & Jeffery Wong.

  1. Most runs, it's common for organizers to ask for identification card. It's a prevention of cheating especially if they don't know the winners age. Various ways to cheat eg a young man running the veteran race, asking someone else to run, etc.

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Yes I understand that but if anyone wins, meaning he/she wins!

The policy is man-made and perhaps should state.. prize can be redeemed within 30 days (or within a specified period) by producing the ID to the organiser. or something along that tune..

there are official photographer to take the photos to verify the runner :-) just my thought... :-)
