STAYING COMMITTED WITH EXERCISING IS AS IMPORTANT AS A COMMITMENT IN A RELATIONSHIP

Staying committed with exercise is as important as staying committed in a relationship. There are a lot of challenges but it must be done.

KEEPING MOMENTUM

Momentum is so priceless that once its broken, it takes more than a will power to start it again.

WAGING WAR AGAINST OURSELVES.

I MISS BOOTCAMP

Since I became a bootcamper, my whole life took a turn. From a night owl to an early riser (with 8 hours of minimum sleep). Just before I began training at the bootcamp in 2009 in Padang Merbuk, my night life was at its prime. Party, clubbing, layparking was all me.

When I became hooked or addicted rather, to the bootcamp training at start 545am, my whole system was overhauled. Now a work-in progress to tame my Blood pressure back to normal and I shall be back on my feet and slowly build myself back to a Delta.

IT IS MORE THAN FITNESS AND HEALTH

If we can measure health and fitness in monetary term, many people would be in overdraft or in great debts. Yes, that is how we had neglected our health. Likewise, there are these bunch of people whom are multi-millionaires (in health and fitness) having consistently workout for years at the Chief's Original Bootcamp.

To make sure everyone is in the right path and direction, COBC organized a quarterly get together with recruits and the first partyfor this year 2016 was held at the Chef & Brew on 17 April 2016. This event was originally organised on a monthly basis the soonest we completed our 1 month of training. Heck.. in those days, not many can survive the whole month consistently without missing a session and that calls for a celebration (Actually we just want to party) but as time passesby, 80% of recruits every monthh are returning recruits and the one month of consistent training felt abit too easy. So we started celebrating it every quarter. We deserves to party after being discipline and consistent with our training.

This party too was organised so recruits can get up close and personal with COBC trainers from other platoons, acquainted with recruits from other platoons and as well as get to know those behind the scene, COBC admins. There are in total 10 platoons in total.

It was great to see Anna Chai, Danny, Surani and others whom has been working out at the Chief's Original Bootcamp as early as its inception in 2010. There were a few recruits whom had just join the bootcamp less than a month and I do hope you all were inspired to hear the success stories of the otais. Success is in term of discipline, weight lost, fat lost and as well as athletic performance. The oldest recruit in our bootcamp network are in their 60s and the youngest recruit is 17 years old. Todate, we have trained more than 9,000 recruits and majority of them are now avid runners, marathoners, ultramarathoners, cyclists and as well as triathletes.

Everyone shared their experience and journey towards a better health and fitness. At the Chief's Original Bootcamp, it is not always about health and fitness, it is all about friendship and a strong support community.

CHIEF'S ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP "NO BETTER FRIENDS, NO WORST ENEMY" ~ BATTLE OF PLATOONS 4.0

The battle of platoons is an annual event organised by the Chief's Original Bootcamp to foster the spirit of camaraderie between recruits from their own battalion and among others as well as to compete in a friendly manner. The strongest and the best teamwork battalion will be crowned the Champion. There are 5 battalions at the Chief's Original Bootcamp at Ampang, Bandar Utama, Cyberjaya, Damansara Heights and Subang Jaya.

For the first time in COBC history, Damansara Heights was disqualified for insufficient enrollment but in good spirit, recruits from Damansara Heights enjoins Bandar Utama. Damansara Heights platoon, codenamed the Highlanders was crowned Champion twice in the 4 years the Battle of platoons were organised. We also have a new battalion from Maxis whom have been under corporate training with COBC for almost a year. MAXIS is the first corporate company that promote and emphasizes health and fitness for their employees all year through and even sponsor their employees to keep fit. All was from the effort and dedication from Asni Afzah and her team from Maxis Employees Engagement department.

Captains were selected for each team and the Captains in charge were Jason Lee for the Spartans, Aston for the Barracudas, Shahrul for the Maxis-Titans and Amri for the Legends. There were 152 participants in the event; Spartans 39pax, Barracudas 36, Maxis Titans 37pax and the Legends 40pax. Those that participated in the Battle of Platoons 4.0 are as follows:

(list to be updated)

This year there were 4 battalions competing under their own team banner as follows:

BOOTCAMP FOR LIFE~ 5th YEAR

Our journey with the Chief's bootcamp began 6 years ago in 2009 as a recruit at the bootcamp Padang Merbuk. Alike all others, we fell in love with the program at first sight. Prior to our training at the bootcamp, I have explored everything else from running, weight training, personal training, RPM, Body pump, swimming, triathlon, dualthon and even mountain climbing. My bootcamp partner Dr Malek Aziz too went through the same phase seeking and searching for an active lifestyle and training that can keep our mojo and fitness align with our medical history. Those who were given a second life having survived cancer would understand how nothing else matters but a good bill of great health. We love the program so much that we practically begged Chief Brabon and Gunny Hames to obtained the license to operate the program at Bandar Utama in 2010. The thought of not having the program being run in Malaysia was a nightmare having discovered the previous licensee wanted to opt out.

That was the beginning of our journey running the world's oldest military inspired bootcamp in Malaysia. When the licensee for Subang Jaya, Cyberjaya, Damansara Heights and Shah Alam too opted out from the network, we quickly took over. It was all for the passion for fitness. Not much for the money but for the network of people that shares similar passion as us.

The Chief's Original Bootcamp is where it all started. It revolutionize the whole concept of exercising in Malaysia. That was during the period where all the boutique gym mushrooms throughout Malaysia. We went against the odd to establish the outdoor group fitness concept ala Military training. Now, the bootcamp concept had grow from just the Chief's Original Bootcamp to dozens of others but todate, the Chief's Original Bootcamp is the only bootcamp in Malaysia where the program is actually designed by former and currently serving infantry soldier, namely the Royal Australian army. Of course, the program is then customize for civilian training. At the Chief's Original Bootcamp (COBC), we deliver the program that was professionally and scientifically design to reap out the maximum results. The founder Chief Brabon and his Master Global trainers (whom design the program for COBC) establish the program way back in 1999; for already 16 years!!

2014 8 WEEKS CHALLENGE- SUPPLEMENTS FOR OPTIMUM RESULT

Choosing the right supplement to optimize the result from our sweat pouring workout can be a pain and at time, with an adverse effect. Instead of gaining muscle mass, we can also gained unnecessary fat. Fortunate for us, the 8 Weeks program at the Chief's Original Bootcamp had researched the contents and ingredients for a list of supplement that will maximise lean muscle mass, improve health and at the same time, burn those unwanted stored fat. Personally, having a whole list of perks of being me with diabetic, high cholestrol etc... choosing the best supplement is alot harder.

The recommended supplements by our principal Chief & Gunny in Australia are those from the BSC range of supplements (which is not available in Malaysia) viewable by members only at HERE. We have search and found an equivalent if not better content of supplements and much reasonably priced. The list of supplements that is equivalent to those recommended for the 8 Week Challenge are available at the Chief's Original Bootcamp, Malaysia. You can view them at HERE or contact any of your instructors or email admin@bootcampmalaysia.com for more information.

The following are supplements available for immediate purchase.

BOOTCAMP IFTAR

Ramadhan is coming to an end in a few days and to end this period of fasting for the muslims, the bootcampers from all platoons gathered at my house for a long overdue gathering. This fostering of comradeship moment brought us all back into memory lane when we were all still fluffy and heavy to where we are all at now!! I had a great moment, listening to Penny, Marie and Sui Lynn journey with COBC and enjoyed getting updates from recruits from all over. There were more than 40 pax that brought variety of food for the pot luck iftar.

The invitations for the pot luck were sent by Afiza Abdul Halin. Guests that rsvp'ed were only less than 30 but not all recruits are tuned to Facebook invites. All instructors except for Affiq and James whom had prior engagements, came including the tall and handsome korean look-alike (as they say) Sarge Chun. Unfortunately, Staff Sarge Nawal was in Sydney for bootcamp training with Chief and could not be there for the iftar. Those that never tried, had their first taste of Corporal Amir's famous lasagna. I finished almost half of it and wanted more before everything was clean sweep. With almost 50 recruits from all over, I am always amazed at the spirit of camaraderie among fellow bootcampers... a true reflection of Malaysians.

PLATOONS VERSUS PLATOONS SEASON 3

Cheerful picture of Adibah Mohamad in cap and spectacles
Platoon versus Platoon Season 3 is scheduled to be held on 18 January 2013 and will be organised in memory of Adibah Mohamad whom was our pioneer recruit that had attended the first battle and came to support us on our second platoon challenge while recovering from her surgery for breast cancer but she passed away shortly after the event. Adibah was our comrade at Bandar Utama Alpha and we are truely saddens by her demise. Adibah was truly an amazing women and a true inspiration to many. Please take a moment to read about Adibah at HERE.

What is the Platoon Versus Platoon? To avoid any confusion, Platoon versus Platoon is actually a Battalion versus Batalion. Traditionally in Australia, it was a platoon competing with another platoon but in Malaysia we merge all platoons at a location (battalion) and goes to war with another location (Battalion). This was organized to determine which platoon is the strongest in a friendly, enjoyable and slightly competitive way. It was also organized to enable recruit to meet with recruits at other locations and thus, broadening the networking of bootcampers. The first battle in Malaysia was organised in 2010 (For more information, read HERE) when COBC was under a different licensee. We took over the license the year after and organized the first battle in 2011 which you can read more at HERE. The second battle took place in 2012 and the details of which is available at HERE.

The winning platoon will have its platoon's name inscribed on the trophy. The first year saw Damansara Heights Highlanders as the Champion. Second year, Bandar Utama Spartans took the baton and was crowned as the Champion.

For the battle, all platoons at a location is merged as follows:

a) The merger of BU Alpha, BU Bravo and BU Dusk platoons as Bandar Utama Spartans.
b) The merger of DH Zulu and DH Charlie as Damansara Heights Highlanders.
c) The merger of USJ1 Charlie and USJ1 Dusk as the Subang jaya Legends.
d) The merger of Penang Alpha, Charlie and Zulu as one batallion.
d) Ampang
e) Cyberjaya

AN ASPIRING JUNE

The June-Intake started with a Bomb at the Chief's Original Bootcamp, Malaysia again... More than half of returning recruits achieved their Personal Best in their Benchmark Assessments. Read more about the Benchmark Assessment at HERE. The latest benchmark assessment saw more recruits completing their benchmark assessment below 7 minutes which was an extraordinary achievements considering there were only three recruits in the "6-Minutes ++" category the same time last year.

What was even more inspiring, was the testimony from our recruits on Facebook (keep it coming folks). At COBC, it is always a positive inspiring energy that flows through our every recruit. That is the spirit of bootcamp. Rarely will do we see our recruit demoralizing other comrades or other recruit from other bootcamp or even instructors from other bootcamp. Mutual respect and common courtesy is COBC build-in traits & belief that is the first rule of being a bootcamper, preached by the platoon commander during every month's opening speech. For June what will be the target?

Whether your target was to trim down your waist line from size 36 to size 30 like Poh Ow Ee...

or to run faster like Chee Yee Law whom never seriously ran before but started collecting Prizes after a few months with COBC...

THE LONGEST DAY

When we talk about a bootcamp fitness program, nothing can rival Chief Brabon and Gunny Brabon 23 years old program at the Chief's Original Bootcamp, Malaysia (COBC) or commercially known as the Original Bootcamp (OBC) in Australia. The duo founded the OBC in 1999 from what was first a camp to slim down the wives (at their request) of the goddess looking Royal Australian Army. Chief customized the army training program for those wives and it became so popular their friends began to take part and today, from just a platoon of wives, it has expanded across 50 locations in Australia and 6 locations in Malaysia.

The program was further researched and various events were organized to keep recruits motivated while maintaining their training momentum. In Malaysia, the Military-Corporation aka Military Corp (pronounced as Military Kor) codenamed MC12 (Military Corp12 session) had trained more than 5,000 recruits since its establishment less than 3 years ago and the next most successful program launched under OBC/COBC stable was the 8 Week Challenge where a challenge was thrown to all recruits to transform their health and physique into their dream body in just 8 weeks. Those challengers with the best transformation, will receive a reward RM15,000 as the grand prize for the the Grand Champion. In addition to the overall champion, Malaysia Champion received a New Balance Voucher worth RM3,000.

Beside the Military Corp and the 8 Week Challenge, in Australia, there are three (3) other programs that became the talk of town every time it was organized namely, the Longest Day, the Hell's Week and Spec Ops (aka Special Operations). What is the Longest Day? This is the subject for this blog, specially request by 8WC Summer-2013 Subang Jaya Champion Sui Lynn.

The Longest Day was first introduced in 2011 and it was limited to only 52 participants-by-invitation per event . This was intentionally done to maintain the quality of the event and to make it exclusive. Only the best 52 applicants will be approved to participate. Thusfar, there is no recruit from Malaysia that had successfully participated and complete the Longest Day challenge. In 2012, one of our former instructor Daing was invited and had completed the challenge making him the first Malaysia instructor to have completed the challenge but that is expected of Chief's instructor. At the point of writing, there is still no one recruit that was invited to participate. The participation is by invitation only. Rumours have it, COBC instructors are currently grooming a few Deltas to take part in the challenge. Recruits will be nominated by their local lead instructor, having met all physical and motivational standards that are required. Recruits were not only judge on their physical ability but also on their mental fortitude.

The Longest Day event is a continuous 25 hours of bootcamp'ing!! Non-stop?!! ...almost!! The Longest Day was created to give civilians an insight into the level of physical and mental fortitude required to be a Special Forces soldier without having to commit to military service.

It began immediately the moment the bus transporting the participant arrived at the destination. They were greeted by instructors whom were either formerly infantry soldiers and/or some still serving soldiers. They were greeted with endless knocked on the bus door, followed by screaming and cursing army-style for all participants to get off the bus. Once everybody were off the bus, they were given a last call to retreat but if they are determine to proceed, they all must cross a line drawn which by then, there will be no turning back.

COBC 2013 QUARTER 1: RETRO PARTY PART 2 (JANUARY TO MARCH SPIRIT OF BOOTCAMP AND ACERS)

COBC had our quarterly party in April at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club with the theme "Retro Party" (See: HERE) and part of the night's program was the certificate presentation for the achievers namely the voted Spirit of Bootcamp and those that was committed to discipline and sheer consistent workout- the Acers (100% Attendance, Commitment and Effort).

For the newbies, the Spirit of Bootcamp award is given to the recruit that motivates you to push that extra harder, somebody that makes your session more enjoyable, it does not even have to somebody that you know. It can be somebody that you have never even spoken to but you notice him/her to be encouraging, humorous and helpful. You determine who motivates you the most and you vote for him to be the Spirit of Bootcamp for your platoon. The recruit that was voted the most, will be the Spirit of Bootcamp for the platoon and will receive a certificate.

The ACERS... are those recruit that attended all the 12 sessions at his/her registered platoon including the Benchmark Assessment. Being military-inspired, it is important that we are always discipline and consistent with our training. Yes, you can attend as many sessions as you want, at any location (but must seek approval first before attending by SMS'ing Admin) under the Bootcamp-Buffet but you will only be awarded with the ACERS certificate only if you have attended the 12 sessions (including Benchmark Assessment) at your registered platoon.

COBC 2013 QUARTER-1: RETRO PARTY PART I

Its a Retro party at the Chief's Original Bootcamp's 1st quarter 2013 partayyy.. but what is actually the COBC party? For the benefits of the many new recruits, COBC organized a get together amongst all recruits from all platoons at all battalions and all instructors closed ranks and socialize with the recruits. Yes.. It is perhaps the only opportunity for you to get to know your platoon commander without any fear of being 'grunt'ed'. It is also the period for you to dress-to-kill or show off your new physique. The party used to be a monthly event but we feel the party is better appreciated when it is not too frequent.. unless of course, it was requested (for earlier).

Today's party marked our 29th party that we had organised since our establishment. Each party bears different theme and although today's party theme was Retro... but I think its more like an aphro-party. Below are the list of previous party we had:
