UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH WAN HAZRIQ ABDULLAH

Wan Hazriq Abdullah or more fondly known as Corporal (COBC) (P) Wan was born in Kelantan when all other love birds were celebrating the Valentines on 14 February. The strict, firm and no non-nonsence lead instructor is far from the military figure portrayed at the basecamp. Corporal Wan is not your ordinary Corporal. He may not look friendly but he will take care of you and make sure you get what you paid for and achieve your target even if you feel like giving up and rather do without the goal. He wont let you give up and with him.. its either do or die (so far no one die yet)!! but you will thank him when you see your benchmark time is faster and when you had to shop for new pair of cloth when the current became too big for your shrunk and improved body.

In person, Corporal Wan is not only friendly but hilarious and humble in nature. There is nothing else more important to Corporal Wan than his family and the CHIEF'S ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP. He will drop any other errand for that two most important factors in his life. Family values and his passion in his work, made him an outstanding person that only grew stronger and better with every feedback received from anyone and anybody.

VIDEO!! BATTLE OF KIASUS!! HOOYAH!!

The first BATTLE OF CHIEF ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP platoons was held on 17 July 2011 and saw the merger of platoon USJ1-Alpha and USJ1-Bravo into the Legends, BU-Alpha and BU-Bravo into the Spartans and DH-Zulu as the Highlander. These three platoons from three locations competed to be crown as the first Spirit of Platoons and the first Champion!! For more details & pictures, Click Battle- Part 1, Battle- Part 2, Battle Part 3Battle-Part 4, Battle-Part 5, Battle-Part 6 and Battle-The Results.

Before the results were announced, the Spartans & the Legends led the challenge with four bull-dog stickers each. The Legends was short of 1 point. The first five challenges were all about stamina & fitness. Only the fittest and the fastest recruit/platoon can win the first 5 challenges but the determining factor for the first Battle of Platoons Champion is very dependent on team work effort.

The CHIEF'S ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP is all about motivating and inspiring team members. No matter how weak or slow a team member is, we are ala a soldier at war, duty-bound to support, motivate and would never leave anyone behind. At war, a soldier entrust their life to their fellow comrade. As such, instructors & admins as the observer to all three platoons had the discretion to crown the first Spirit of Platoons and the first Champion in the inter-platoon battle based on primarily comrade-ship, coordination, points and time.

20 YEARS OF THE ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP, THE HISTORY....

The History

20 years ago in 1991, at the tender age of 17, Jim Brabon joined the Royal Australian Army as an Infantry Soldier. He had just completed his final year of school, and with weeks was on a bus to Basic Training (the Australian name for boot camp).

Having competed at a national level in Athletics, Cross Country and Road Running, Brabon was soon identified as "An extremely fit individual amongst a very fit group of men." by his Commanding Officer.

Despite his already impressive level of fitness, Brabon soon found that the functional training methods, and discipline based motivational techniques utilised by his superiors, continued to improve his overall physical ability, more so than the methods taught to him while completing his fitness and athletics coaching certifications.

Base on his reputation within the ranks, Brabon was soon fielding requests for Personal Training from fellow soldiers looking to undertake the gruelling SAS Barrier Test, and if successful, the legendary SAS Cadre Course. It was at this time that Brabon discovered his passion for motivating others to push beyond their mental and emotional barriers. As a result Grunt Athletic was born.

Grunt Athletic Australiagrunt (grnt) n. Slang for an Infantry Soldier.

THE LAST ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP SESSION FOR YEAR 2010

Our ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP MALAYSIA @ BANDAR UTAMA ended year 2010 with an 'Amazing Race' Challenge for the last session today!!! Although we missed having Patrick Gotham, Jenn Collins, Adriano Abila, Marlene Kandler, .Azliza Razali, Fatintafrina Tareh, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob, Izalea Ayob, Sayf Ismail, Amy Ho, Farah Ekmal Afiza Abdul Halin, Syed Mahadzir Syed Manshor & Viki Lim.... and expected Azlan Ramli to be absent too, but we had a good 49 recruits at Alpha.

Recruits were pre-informed to expect an early nice  white  'wet' christmas surprise pressie from Sarge Dann and the 'reds' community. Sarge Dann, Corporal Nawal & Corporal Tom was the reds incharge for the platoon and had spent 5 hours preparing, trekking and planning for this last session. Their commitment was exemplary... their dedication was admirable.

The platoon was divided into three teams Alpha, Bravo & Charlie under the supervision of one Red for each team. Coincidentally.. or maybe fated, the kiasu-est were all in my team.. James Fong, Joe Liew, Joannita Zaleha Yusoff, Pooi Ching Khiew, Ody Nurfuadi Ruzalli etc etc...

There were 3 IMPORTANT RULES... (1) every team must collect items number 1 to 8 according to the numbering in the map (2) once collected, no items are allowed to be drop on the ground (3) no team members can be left more than 3 steps apart. Any breach of the rules, our legs will suffer with squat pulses..

OBC-USJ: 1st TRIAL SESSION

.

The Chinese belief that luck in number is an important element to be observed especially when we are starting a new business or getting into a marriage etc..  With our little understanding of Feng Shui, we chose the date 18 November (today) which means 'easy to prosper' to start the first ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP session in USJ1. The best part of Feng Shui, we dont have to believe in it for it to work. Today is also the second day of the Muslim's Eidul Adha or the festival of sacrifices. Theoretically, it should be a good start.

We left our house in Sungai Penchala at 5:15am anticipating a15 minutes drive to the training site although Sarge Dann, Corporal Chun and Corporal Tom (the USJ1 instructors for today), arrived at the training field as early as 5am for the instructors morning briefing and circuit preparation.

Rose Emini Pahamin, Nawal Aini Zulkifli and I arrived at 5:30am and saw Adibah Mohamad, Shear Ling Toh, Chan Meng Yam and James Fong already at the training site. By 5:45am, there were 24 of us including the instructors and we were ready to chart history with the opening of our first session at Laman Sukan MPSJ USJ1.

Today's workout was meant to be 'friendly' given its a 'Trial Session'. The platoon was divided into 4 teams namely Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Echo. We started out in a rectangle circuit with one team at each corner. I was in Team Echo with Nor, Letch Sina, Charlene, Rose Emini Pahamin and a new recruit (cant remember the name). My team, Team Echo was positioned at the last corner, Corner 4. Corner 4 to Corner 1 was the shorter side of the rectangular.

BU-OBC: TW 3/3 THE GRAND FINALE

29 May 2010. The finale.... Last session of the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ Bandar Utama (OBC-BU) first trial week.

There were three selected circuits prepared for the last session of the trial week. The first circuit introduces OBC-BU's very own jaw dropping sexy Sand-babe, I mean Sandbag.

Sarge Dann, Corporal Chun, LC Nawal, LC Hafiz Salleh, LC Jasper and LC Erni were the team of instructors supervising the 41 recruits. We had the Malaysian Actor whom once won the best actor award cum Architect Azhar Sulaiman and National Gymnast, Hairi Zaid Ahmad Saruji training with us. Hairi Zaid came to train with 41 recruits at the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ Bandar utama as part of his training for the Commonwealth Games.

Hairi Zaid is Malaysia national men gymnast artistic. He was selected into the National Gymnast Pelapis Team in 2003 and is competing in the next Commonwealth Games.

Last Year in 2009, Hairi Zaid won 3 GOLD medal and 3 Bronze during the Malaysia Open, 2 GOLD and 2 Bronze for the South Africa Cup and 3 Bronze Medal during the mini Olympic Games.

WHAT HAPPEN TO OBC AT PADANG MERBUK & PADANG ASTAKA ?

.

I had just received an "OFFICIAL STATEMENT" via an email from the Managing Director of the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP INTERNATIONAL, CHIEF BRABON whom 20 years ago, founded the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP authorised network that offered the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP PROGRAM as services. It was a long email that is attached at the bottom of this blog article.

Being a new license operator for the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ Bandar Utama, I was shocked to receive the Official Statement email addressed to all current & past recruits and instructors.

The summary of the OFFICIAL STATEMENT is as follows;

ERNI SYAZWAMI AZMAN (LANCE CORPORAL (P) @ ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ BANDAR UTAMA

For Instructors Ranking eg. Sarge, Corporal, Lance Corporal, see: OBC-RANKING)

ERNI SYAZWANI AZMAN, also known as Lance Corporal Erni or LC Erni at the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP is a Lance Corporal in Probation that had underwent more than a month of six days a week daily training to familiarise herself with the Original Bootcamp forms & technique, Culture, Terminology and Training Style. COUNT DOWN FOR THE ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ BANDAR UTAMA

.
Since Bandar Utama was given the approval as an Original Bootcamp franchise on 27 April 2010 (known as OBC-BU), Sarge Dann has been busy training the instructors and be trained. Trainers at the Original Bootcamp must be better and fitter than all the recruits. The recruits usually comprised of a good mix of athlete whom seek to improve their performance and couch potatoes whom had never exercise before. At the Original Bootcamp, the instructors led by example and train together with the recruits instead of the conventional old fashion ways of only bossing people what to do...

For the whole month in May, on non-OBC days,  the trainers met three times a week to perfected their forms and techniques.

We learn the correct form and techniques from Chief Brabon during the Original Bootcamp Academy. There, we learn so many different forms and technique that we had to digest it slowly via our own instructors training. More often, we discounted and/or compromised our forms and techniques during training which is not acceptable to any Original Bootcamp instructors.

BOOTCAMP INSTRUCTORS RANKING

NOTE: The ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP™ ranks held by our Instructors in no way reflect the ranks that those individuals may currently hold, or have previously held in any arm of the military, law enforcement or fire/rescue. They are purely ranks that they have earned in relation to the provision of the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP™ program.
Here is a brief write-up to further understand the instructors ranking at the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP...
LANCE CORPORAL - Lance Corporals are essentially apprentices, who are still learning the ropes and perfecting forms and techniques. It may be that they are still undertaking additional studies to become a fully qualified Instructor.
