OBC-FEB 4/12: THE FIRST 60 GRUNTS FOR FEBRUARY..

.

Its the 4th Session today!!! and so far soo ACE!!! After the warm-up, we began our session with 60 kick Ass Grunts... A good start on Monday blues although it was meant as a punishment for some AWOLs. We had a little too much to eat yesterday especially at the Bootcamp Graduation lunch.

Having completed the Grunts, the Delta, Seal and Rangers were split. The Delta went with Corporal Dhamendra Mahalingam, the Seals with Corporal Elin Klemetsen Fossum and Rangers with Sergeant Simran Latiff.

The Wesley Snipe lookalike introduced us to a circuit where the deltas were further split into a rank of two separated by a Yellow & Red cone with a distance approximately 5 metres apart. There was another second red cones located 30 metres apart. On the first Set, those at the Red-Cones had to performed 10 repetition of basket ball jump, and those at the Yellow-cones performed ten repetition of grunts. When Deltas at the Red-cones completed the 10 Basket ball jumps, they must run to the second red-cones and back to the only Yellow Cones to perform the ten Grunts. The Deltas that was initially at the yellow Cones moved to the red-cones and perform the same ten repetition of Basket-ball jump before running the 30 metres to the second red-cones and 30 metres back to the yellow cones.

The basket ball jump was replaced with Squat Jump on the second set with a similar 10 repetitions. The running to the second red-cones was replaced with Ballerina Run.. its running with knee high. Those at the Yellow-cone performed 10 repetition of Truster.

After completing two sets of the circuit, all the Delta ran for a short 30 metres before the second circuit. Again, divided into two, the first front Delta must run up 'stairs' and came down side-ways. Whilst waiting for the Delta to return, the second Delta group performed the truster.

After completing Corporal Dharmendra's circuit, we moved to Lans Corporal Elin. It was all 6-PACK WORKOUT circuit with LC Elin. The Abs-circuit was performed for 2 minutes before changing to the next workout. We started with the Jack knife, and change to the Flutter Kick. Then we did the T-Kick that was performed lying down, palms under the hip, leg raised 90 degrees (start position), the legs were then dropped to 45 degree and spread open wide those legs and closing it back still at 45 degree and raise it back to start position. Similarly, this was repeated for the whole 2 minutes before changing to the Military Sit-up. The last exercise in the circuit was the planks...... and the cycle continues. I love these abs workout and the excruciating pain saw Doctor Malek Aziz screaming "Where is Tomi?"....... Dont ask me why!!

When the Delta were done with Lans Corporal Elin, we left for Sergeant Simran and Sandra Baglog. The Delta were divided into two group namely G1 and G2, with both group facing each other. On TABATA (Twenty Second Active, 10 second break, Twenty active again) G1 started by hugging Sandra and deep squat repeatedly whilst G2 performed the Ballistic Push-up. Then the sandbag was passed and the exercise was reversed. We went Bonkers doing the Ballistic push-up, and time was added (from only 20 seconds) as a punishment when Tomi Soetjipto uttered his first Swear-word....... F@#K!!

The second set, we began squatting down and whilst squat-hold, holding Sandra between the leg with both arm stretched, Sandra was raised to shoulder level and drop, then raised & drop again repeatedly for 20 seconds. The other group performed the King Kong Push up. The exercise was rotated between G1 and G2 and we held back our tears and 'cursing' pending Sergeant Simran' scream for the next set.

The third set, on the same sumo-squat hold and Sandra held at chest level with both hand as the start position, we push and pull Sandra with both hand forward and backward whilst maintaining the sumo squat-hold and Sandra at shoulder level at all time. The second group did the military push up until the exercise was reversed. Being the last set, everybody was holding back their cursing and words to avoid.

Today was a great combination of cardio, overall muscles................. and F#@k'ing cursing. Thanks Tomi Soetjipto, we know what to do if we ever needed the extra calories to burn.

I burned a total of 620 calories but the muscles were worst than burning... it was excruciating.... but there were no Tsunami heart rate and I love it!!! Excellent workout!!

HOOOOOOYAAAAAH!!!!

Until next kick @ss workout..... Stay tune...

BOOTCAMP MALAYSIA JANUARY GRADUATION DAY @ MARKS PLACE

.

7 February 2010... We celebrated another Graduation Day from one month of intensive training at the Original Bootcamp Malaysia. This is the only time that everybody from KL Alpha, KL Bravo, PJ Alpha, PJ Bravo and PJ Charlie gathered under one roof to celebrate another month of OBC-Finisher.

Similar to December 2009, we celebrate the January 2010 graduation at the Mark's Place @ Kelana Jaya between 11am to 3pm with a buffet lunch. The Buffet Lunch cost RM45 per person and comprised of Spaghetti, Satay, Fried Rice, Lamb Pizza.....

There were no scrolls for those that graduated, but the sentiment to be surrounded by people with similar passion for health and fitness was sufficient to get us all motivated.... that, I reckon was one of the objective of the Graduation Day.

Upon arrival at 1pm, Mark's Place was already packed. I was greeted by David, Anushia Siva Subramaniam's husband and his son Mark, the owner and the operator of Mark's Place. Anushia is a recruit at PJ Bravo. The buffet was served in a private pool room that was converted into the food area.

The free-flow food buffet was stopped for a moment for a short announcement by Sergeant Simran Latiff for the Spirit of Bootcamp award.

There is one Spirit of Bootcamp award for every platoon.

The Spirit of Bootcamp award was presented to Zaiem Razak for KL Alpha, Jack Lua for KL Bravo and Gail Tailor for PJ PM. Raja Rahman Mansor, the recipient for PJ Alpha and Nicholas Chan for PJ Bravo was absent.

There were a few from KL Bravo today, I saw Adibah Syazni Jaafar, Amelda Wong, Sham Ser, Jamielah Khan, Selima B, Jack Lua, Stephanie Lai and a few others (please fill me up...).

Recruits from other platoons were Chun SSJ, Cynthia Gan SSJ, Angela Foo YTF, Alex Nathan, Maya Hashim, Suanie T, Bev Tee, Lulu Cattywampus, Joyce Chuo, Asha Vadivelu, Rukaiyah Manis, Nicholas Chan, Zairin Zainuddin, Maria Hashim................ I smiled when I saw the jovial Suanie T, Bev Tee and Cynthia... these bunch were the life at Pee Jay Platoon.

Regrettably, there were only 4 trainers that came to celebrate our Graduation... Sergeant Simran, Corporal Faizal Ariff, Corporal Jason and Lans Corporal Hafiz Omar. There were no sign of Corporal Dharmendra Mahalingam, Lans Corporal Elin Klemetsen Fossum, Lans Corporal Zamzul, Lans Corporal Stephanie Chok and other trainers. We were quite disappointed with the poor turn-up of the trainers.

MAXIS GPR/EDGE/3G CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!!

.

MAXIS GPRS & DATA SERVICES-
CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever checked your monthly MAXIS BILL STATEMENT for GPRS and DATA SERVICE?

It is recorded in the statement as follows:

NOVEMBER 2009 STATEMENT
Maxis Mobile Internet / Maxis Mobile Internet
21/10/09-20/11/09 GPRS/EDGE/3G 3KB 0.03

DECEMBER 2009 STATEMENT
Maxis Mobile Internet / Maxis Mobile Internet
21/11/09-20/12/09 GPRS/EDGE/3G 50KB 0.30

JANUARY 2010 STATEMENT
Maxis Mobile Internet / Maxis Mobile Internet
21/12/09-20/01/10 GPRS/EDGE/3G 108KB 0.62
Roaming Mobile Internet
21/12/09-20/01/10 Telkomsel Internet 1,698KB 41.43
21/12/09-20/01/10 NTS Internet 3,526KB 121.69

There is no breakdown given for internet usage via GPRS/EDGE/3G except for the total usage and total cost for the period/month.

For example from NOVEMBER 2009 bill statement for the period from 21/12/09 to 20/01/10, the total usage was 3KB and the total cost for the period was RM0.03.

Now, this is when the problem arose...

My mobile internet historical usage pattern can be seen from the November 2009, December 2009 and January 2010 bill statement above that recorded usage and charges of 3KB/RM0.03, 50KB/RM0.30 and 108KB/RM0.62 respectively.

I left for Jakarta for three days from 30th December 2009 to 1 January 2010.

My ROAMING MOBILE INTERNET USAGE for The 3 DAYS & 2 NIGHTS in Jakarta, was a whopping 5,260KB / RM161.12. (Telkomsel Internet 1,698KB / RM41.43 & NTS Internet 3,526KB / RM121.69)

QUESTION: How is it possible for the Total Usage in 3 DAYS/2NIGHTS can total up to 5,260KB when the 3 months monthly usage ranges from 3KB to 106KB only... I used less mobile internet in Jakarta as compared to Malaysia.

I disputed the 5,260KB roaming mobile internet usage and called MAXIS 123 for clarification. Maxis received my complain and issued  a complain no C7036696.

4 Days later, Maxis operator called and inform that they had checked, verified and confirm the cost for the 5,260KB charged is valid and true and explained to me the details of how the cost was calculated?

I never disputed the charges for the 5,260KB mobile internet usage?  I am only disputing the 5,260KB usage within 3 days in Jakarta which was 4870% higher than the highest total mobile internet usage for the whole MONTH.

I asked MAXIS call-center for further information on disputing the mobile internet usage that had suddenly increased by 4870% in only 3 days when I was in Jakarta. She was clue-less and did not know what to answer. To cut the long story short, I asked from her the detail breakdown for the mobile internet usage. she said she will need to revert back to me.

She called me later and said she will courier the detail breakdown and Maxis will charge me RM5.00. I agree to pay RM5.00.

THERE ARE TWO ISSUES TO LEARN from my predicament...............

ISSUE 1) that there is probably NO DISPUTE-CHANNEL for MOBILE INTERNET USAGE. Customers are charge without any references on usage. I am being charge for the usage of 5,260KB without being able to verify the usage-details charged!!

ISSUE 2) All the Mobile Internet package (example: RM40, RM50 or the unlimited mobile internet package at RM120) are useless.

I used the MAXIS MOBILE INTERNET all the time in Malaysia............ for EMAILS, WORK, BLOGGING, FACEBOOK, GOOGLE TALK, BLACKBERRY MESSENGER , BROWSING etc etc.... During office hour, most of my communication with my staff are via the Google Talk on mobile.

With that sort of usage... The highest Mobile Internet Usage per month was only 108KB or equivalent to only 62 SEN. and knowing this negligible charges........ MAXIS make it compulsory for customer to contractually sign a mobile package plan on packages offered.... which is a real waste of money.

Be careful when signing package plans that requires you to subscribed for internet package GPRS/EDGE/3G!!!! It is not worth it!!! Mobile internet usage will only cost you less than One Ringgit for daily use on Emails, Google Talk, Facebook, Blackberry Messenger, Yahoo etc etc..... It only cost a few sens a month!!!

For Roaming mobile internet usage & charges........ will update soon once i get the breakdown details. I am waiting for the detail breakdown for both local and the roaming mobile internet usage for verification on my historical usage pattern & charges and will update on this blog for your knowledge and information.

Until then, Stay tune........

OBC-FEB 3/12: TSUNAMI HEART-QUAKE RICHTER SCALE 7.5

.

Its the third Bootcamp session and the absence of a few KLA personalities suddenly sunk-ed in... The character of every recruits at KLA made what KLA is. There were Danny Quest, Ana Kassim, Daing Daniel Fitri, Chun Chia Kai SSJ, Vivien Luyen Ow, Arnaud, Zaiem Razak... amongst others. KLA felt different without them... KLA are so attached to each other having  sweat-blood, in tearful-pain, screams and moaning together for months. Lesson to remember guys, REGISTER EARLY!!......otherwise, you will have similar fate. There is only 60 vacancies for training at KLA and KLA is the most popular platoon.

We had a role-call at 5:38am where Sergeant Simran called out-loud all the names in the platoon.... and the AWOLs discovered were.............. WAI-YEE CHAN (FFK??), ILYANNA AYOB (merajuk?), EWAN ABAS (hey.. you are back??), SAROOP ROOPI RAMPAL (what???).....

The warm-up session began at 5:45am SHARP!!! Guys... please remember this always...  Sergeant Simran NEVER FAIL in my 4 months thusfar, to START the session at 5:45am SHARP!!! not a second earlier and never later. Please observe carefully......... otherwise... you will be jealous of our sexier legs with the extra squat pulses as punishment. Needless to say, we had our squat pulses  from the 5 AWOLS..... and it was great.

Delta and Seals started with Corporal Faizal Ariff.......... his trade-mark..... the TABATA.. somehow, whenever there is Corporal Faizal Ariff, there will be TABATA. aka twenty second active, 10 second break and 20 second active again and so forth.......... one of my favourite circuit.

The first circuit began on TABATA for the following exercises:

1) The "GET-UPS" or the weird step thingy as termed by Tomi Soetjipto.. start position while standing, then one knee on the ground and the other 90 degree ala lunges, then both knee on the ground ala kneeling, then one knee up 90 degree and back to standing position. This is repeated for 20 seconds.

2) King Kong push-up

3) Touches D' Shoe Crunches (Tomi Soetjipto.. I like this term you gave)

4) HeartQuake Mountain Climber

5) Trusters

The Seal left the circuit for the next pre-planned workout and replaced by the Ranger. The Delta together with the Rangers was about to began the TABATA when suddenly Dixon appeared from nowhere... late!! and we received a groaning 10 grunts before beginning the TABATA circuit with the following exercises:

1) Hindu Squats

2) Wide-push up

3) Touch D' Shoe Crunch

4) Planks

More time added to the 20 second high-intensity workout when Tomi Soetjipto stopped exactly at 20 seconds before Corporal Faizal Arrif commanded "steady" to signal a break. Guys, maybe we should buy Corporal Faizal on his birthday @ 16 June, a proper Stopwatch for accuracy in time... but I like the Touch D' Shoe Crunch and did not mind it at all the extra added time... so thank you Tomi.

The second circuit felt heavier and abit more painful. I can feel some discomfort in my already damaged knee.  In exhaustion, highly likely exercise-form (especially the hindu squat) are performed incorrectly that may result in injury. I can also feel a minor symptom of hypoglycemia.. shivering, increase heart rate and excessive sweating. I sipped the glucose drink packed for extra energy and walked slowly to Sergeant Simran for the last course of workout.

The last workout involved running with a few equipments.... There were mock rifles, Batang Putih (white bazooka), bag pack and Sandbags. Each Delta had to pick and carry one toy only. I took the batang putih.

We began running but I seek permission to leave the batang putih. The discomfort in the knee cap (but it wasn't painful) felt more prominent and I did not want to risk it damaging it further. I ran without any equipments but my heart rate elevates higher... I wanted to give up........... I wanted to stop!! but upon hearing Sergeant Simran's voice saying "Armin, you are without any equipments, start motivating the others...", that shut-up the little voices in my head calling me to give up.

I ran with other Deltas and tagged along Nadia Hanim Tajuddin, a friend I have known for 23 years. 20 years years ago, while I was in London for the Bone marrow transplant, she went to Paris for some heart operation. From once a weakling, we are now both in Delta. Nadia graduated from the University of Melbourne, Northumbria in 2006 and is currently attached to the Attorney-General's Chamber, a successful young but not available professional!!! She is happily married to Muaz Omar with.. i dont know how many kids.

I heard again Sergeant Simran's voice.... "Armin, without any equipment, you should be infront... GO!!!!!" huh... like a turbo charge I sprinted irregardless of the knee and saw Shobha and Nawal... half knackered. I stopped and walk... and heard Sarge Simran's voice again.. "No walking Armin. Run to the end... "... and another turbo charge!!! That voices were damn powerful!! have it my way... I would have given-up half way through the training..  but I am proud and glad that I did not.

Just a friendly advice to new recruits, dont try to cheat!!! they have eyes everywhere!!

Everything that can go wrong in a training day, went wrong today. The discomfort knee-cap, the escalating heart-beat ala earth-quake, back-bone pain, nauseate, hypoglycemic etc all at once!! It was probably due to the knew pre-workout energy drink that I just bought... Somehow, this new pre-workout drink does not have chemistry with me.

I gained a hard-earn 705 calories burn. by the time the session ended, I was dead!!! Another excellent training program!! now... 3 days counting down for Monday's Bootcamp.

HOOOOOOYAAAAAH!!!!

Stay tune for the list of Seals and Rangers (expected on Wednesday next week).........

p/s- DONT FORGET TO ATTEND THE GRADUATION DAY ON SUNDAY 11AM-3PM!!

OBC-FEB2/12- THE DELTA LISTS & SQUARE-RELAY!!

.
Its the second session at the Bootcamp today, for the benefit of the newbies @ the Bootcamp, there are five routines at the Bootcamp.

First the Benchmark assessment which was what we did on the first session. The benchmark record is crucial for us to see our future improvement and for trainers to assess our fitness level to prepare a training program for us. The benchmark timing for some senior recruits are recorded Here but please do not worry about other recruit's timing. (please drop me a line if you want me to record your timing for future reference too) we should always target our own improvement.

Second, the Ranking of fitness via the group category Delta, Seal and Ranger. After the benchmark assessment, recruits are placed into their respective grouping. Delta is the most hardcore training program, Seal is tough and ranger is moderately hard if you have never exercised. There are 5 new upgrades of seal and rangers into Delta today. There are 20 Deltas for February 2010. The List of Deltas are as follows:

1) Kenny Smith
2) Dr Malek Aziz
3) Shobha Bala
4) Wai-Yee Chan
5) Irwan Anuar
6) Tomi Soetjipto
7) Erny Marlina @ Nyna Mohsen
8) Kenix Lim
9) Claire Campbell
10) Jordan bracker
11) Mohd Danial Ismail
12) Lilian Lim
13) Nawal Aini Zulkifli
14) Ilyanna Ayob
15) Machiko Atkinson
16) Marcos
17) Arvind Patmarajah
18) Ily Farhana (previously from KLB)
19) Armin Baniaz Pahamin
20) Nadia Hanim Tajuddin

Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Arvind Patmarajah, Machiko were upgraded from Seal to Delta. Ilyanna Ayob, Irwan Anuar upgraded to Delta straight from Rangers. Well done guys... and congratulation on the fitness improvement. You have to be super-fit to be a Delta. Need to celebrate this? (smile)

Third, the Graduation day that is held on a monthly basis. The next graduation day will be on Sunday, 7 February 2010 at 11am to 3pm @ the Mark's place. It is recommended for new recruits to attend the graduation day and share their experience with senior recruits. Senior recruits should attend to celebrate their whole month of consistent exercises. The previous graduation day was also celebrated there. See: Grad Night.

Fourth, every exercise program at the Bootcamp is never repeated. We will never get bored with the training!!! The circuit may be similar but the type of exercises and repetition may differ. To reap the best result from the Bootcamp, we need to surrender ourselves and give in our 110% effort. Scream, moans, groan if you have too but do it the best that you can!!! Today... its already my fourth month at the bootcamp and yet, I am still struggling.. struggled because the workout differs everyday targeting different muscle group and different cardiovascular strength.

5) The Bootcamp trainers that train together with recruits. More often, Personal Trainers only know exercises in theory but at the bootcamp, the trainers run and exercise with us... Evidently, you should notice how Sergeant Simran goes from one recruit to the other performing the exercises with them.. similarly, Corporal Faizal Ariff today went down and did push up, hands to shoe lace lying down in mud with us pushing screaming for us to go the extra mile and Lans Corporal Stephanie running from recruit to another, to motivate us all.

We had the Square-Relay today......... Recruits in their respective ranks were divided into a team of five. I had Shobha Bala, Kenny Smith, Arvind Patmarajah, Tomi Soetjipto in our group. Inside the square, everybody took a corner each, Corner A, B, C and D with an exception of 1 extra recruit. The parameter between one corner to the other was approxmately 30 metres. As the session began, The One extra recruit will run from corner-A to the next corner, Corner-B where he stopped and performed two repetitions of the given exercise with the Corner-B recruit. Then Corner-B recruit ran to corner C and performed the same two repetitions with Corner-C recruit and the relay continues non-stop.

There will always be one recruit running on a relay from one corner to the other and whilst all Corner-Recruits without any break or stop (unless its his/her turn to run) perform the given exercises. The exercises were as follows:

1) Push-up
2) Star-Jump
3) Touches De Shoe Crunch
4) Mountain Climbers
5) hands to elbow push-up

We had only 3x 30 seconds water break.... which I skipped one break to catch a breather. I cannot express and describe my hatred for the Mountain Climbers.......... it is such a killer!!! but without it... it would not be so.. masochist.

When the instruction was given, it sounded quite easy but really.. today was a short insight into dying.... I LUURVE IT!!!  I burned a modest 620 calories today but the muscle was crying endlessly. My heart-quake at richter scale 5... no tusnami alert but it was still a killer. Now cant wait for the next session....

HOOOOOOOOYAAAAAH!!!!

Stay tune for the list of Seals and Rangers.........

p/s- DONT FORGET TO ATTEND THE GRADUATION DAY!!
