SASUKE & MILLIONS OF YOUTH GATHERING AT THE NATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2012 / HARI BELIA 2012

Hari Belia 2012 (or National Youth Day 2012) was held to honor the contribution of the youth to the country's development & unity and for the second year, Sasuke Malaysia obstacle was the most outstanding and a unique but perfected the stretch of the spectacular Putrajaya Boulevard. Sasuke that was franchised back to Malaysia by duo Zainariah Johari and Alex Cheah Yoke Loong is a 17 years old Japanese television series that was also franchised to USA, Singapore and other countries. The Sasuke was brought in last year to address  Generation Y and the decreasing interest in the main stream traditional sports. Sasuke is expected to be the new in-sports in the region when Sasuke Singapore is launched in a few days in June 2012!!!  This year was a bit unique, the Sasuke obstacle was open to the public for only RM5 for 2 trials. This is an offer that is simply too irresistable!!

The Sasuke was open to the public from Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th May and the real competition was held on 27 May 2012 which was on Sunday. The MC for the event was Mohd Khairul Nizam Wahab (Nizam) and Zamratul Hanim Zainuddin (Zara hanim). Nizam look a lot like the Raja Lawak Champion, Nabil that many from the crowd were cheering and calling him Nabil, Nabil and photo-shoot him! On the 4th day of the event, two youth from the crowd wanted to be the MC and they did!! which make it alot more fun!!

This year too was memorable when two Deputy Ministers namely YB Dato Ahmad Razali and YB Senator Gan Ping Sieu attempted the Sasuke obstacle twice. Their sportsmanship was greatly admired. There is no better leader for the youth than to be with a man that is both people and grass root friendly.

Similar to last year, a platoon of more than 30 recruits from the Chief's Original Bootcamp (COBC) attended the Hari Belia 2012 in support of the new sport.

BORNEO INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2012: CONCURRED AND CONQUERED

BORNEO INTERNATIONAL MARATHON, Kota Kinabalu, 6 May 2012. It was our third trip to Kota Kinabalu with the first two, to climbed up the highest peak in Malaysia Mount Kinabalu and now the third, to run a full marathon course. Sista Rose Emini Pahamin had run the race (half marathon) twice but this was our first BIM... an adhoc crazy decision we made 7 hours before the actual run especially since our race were sponsored by TWL & Sarah Tan. To top that, we were also strongly and endlessly seduced by the mouth salivating list of food and especially the list of COBC recruits running the race!!

After everything was confirmed, I realized the 'weather' condition.. before 7am it look like this...

Oh my God.....  I am fried!!!

A group from COBC arrived a day earlier and May Lyn Wong who was in the first group collected our running BIB and race kits...

ORANG ASLI TRAIL RUN 2012

The Orang Asli (OA) (Indigenous People) Trail Run 2012 was held for the second year at kampung 16, Jalan Bentong Lama (GPS coordiates: 3.325979, 101.754792) by the Running For Orang Asli support group. We all run for various reasons but the noble objectives of the organiser for the Orang Asli Trail Run was heart warming. This year, the purpose of the run was primarily for:

1. For Kg Batu 14, Jalan Bentong Lama, a piece of the OA land is being cultivated to be a showcase of OA houses and huts for community centers exemplifying the lifestyle and culture of OA. The intention for this center is to create an eco tourism business for the villagers as extra income whilst maintaining their heritage. This is a sustainable project that the Running for Orang Asli group would like to assist. Reasons to which why they are yet to a obtain government grants will be made known in the event.

2. For Kg Batu 16, Jalan Bentong Lama, this event is created to give an avenue for them to earn extra income by providing the venue for the run, volunteers as marshalls and guides, and for cooking some OA dishes. The OA too would prefer to work for their income rather than be always dependant on donations.
Although the CHIEF'S ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP (COBC) Community run merely for fitness and health but we were all in support for the cause of the support group to raise fund for the betterment of the indigenous people. In fact, our COBC recruit May Lyn Wong had even registered herself as a volunteer for the group.  In an army of more a few dozens pax, we convoyed to the OA basecamp.

MAYBANK BALI INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2012

We were faced with various obstacles to run the race in Bali with the earthquake in Indonesia, bad pollution from the open fire burning, the driver-supir 1 hour late-arrival to pick us up at the Villa, the hot sun, the heat, the humid weather... Oh the list was endless but despite all that, we successfully conquered the Maybank Bali International Marathon 2012.

A troop of 12 from the Chief's Original Bootcamp left for Denpasar, Bali in three batches over the weekend. The first to arrive was Afiza Abdul Halin that took the 9am, Malaysian Airlines Flight on Friday, 20 April 2012. The same day, Caleb Lian Yoong Lauw and Angela Loo left at 3:45pm by Airasia and Shazni Zubir, Affik Zaki and Maslina Ahmad Ismail departed via Airasia at 6pm flight. On Saturday, Dalyn Nunis arrived shortly before ours. Our flight comprised of Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Aaraf Armin and me. Micaela Soyza and Sheikh Hisham were the last in that arrived on Sunday.

We stayed at the Villa Rumah Santai at Seminyak.

2XU COMPRESSION RUN 2012, SINGAPORE

There were more than thirty of us from the Chief Original Bootcamp, Malaysia that ran the Singapore 2XU run on 1 April 2012.. and it was no April Fool. Rose Emini Pahamin with a group arrived earlier to collect our race number and race kits. We stayed at the Park Royal on Beach Road, Singapore. Rose Emini Pahamin left with Nyna Mohsen, Bahariah Bahadom in a car and after collecting our race kits, she checked herself at the hotel where our parent also stayed. Since we start running for almost 10 years, this was the first time that my parent came to cheer for us.. it was either because they were really bored or maybe they actually love us more than we thought.

Blog compilation of various pictures of COBC pips taken in Singapore during the 2XU.

Mum & Dad was already at the hotel when Rose Emini Pahamin arrived. Nawal Aini Zulkifli and Aaraf Armin and me have not even left Kuala Lumpur.

LSD 10: PUTRAJAYA & THE GUNGHO LADIES

I was in Penang and had missed the long slow distance run at Putrajaya for our 10th COBC weekly running session but with or without me, our COBC celebrity runner Ilyanna Aylin Ayob, Rose Emini Pahamin and Abdul Adzim Zaharudin had never failed to get the best route and distance. The target for this run was for 13km and there were at least two dozens recruits that attended the session.

LSD 9: 25KM RUNNING GETTING LOST IN BUKIT AMAN

Stephanie, Mas, Rose, Evonne, Baba
25 March 2012. Inspired by last week's runner's heaven with two drinking stations serving freezing Glucozade while doing LSD, today I conveniently and happily assumed the Pacesetters drink station will also be there for our 25km run at Bukit Aman and left all monies, and drink bottles at home. Although today, we had similar number of crowd with more than thirty pax but today was extra special because Ali Rahimi Ferdosinezhad was five-fingered!!! Eww.. that sounds wrong, lets rephrased that, Ali Rahimi Ferdosinezhad was Vibram-atised!! Red Vibram Five Finger!!!  We started out abut delayed with Stephanie Choong, Maslina Ahmad Ismail, Rose Emini Pahamin, Evonne, Bahariah Bahadom, Wennice Chai, Tan Wee Liam, Sarah Tan, Ali Rahimi Ferdosinezhad, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob, Abdul Adzim Zaharudin and Taj Mahal but along the way, other late-comers appeared.

Our 25km route is as per the map below (note the mileage in the map is in Mile and not kilometer).

CYCLIST BEWARE!!

On behalf of all bootcampers and all outdoor sports enthusiasts, we extend our deepest condolence and our prayer to Rafizi Hamdan, a 37 years old cyclist that was killed in a hit and run accident in Taman Melawati. What happen to Rafizi was tragic and could have happen to any one of us whom are very much into outdoor activities and sports. Infact, a few years ago before we start bootcamping, we were an avid cyclists too and had participated in various dualthon and triathlon series. Our Chief's Original Bootcamp community had just planned to began our training for the Port Dickson triathlon and we are disturbed with Rafizi Hamdan's misfortune.

The accident was recorded by a cctv from a nearby petrol station.

BROOKS HALF MARATHON 2012 AT STADIUM BUKIT JALIL

More than 30 of us from the Chief's Original Bootcamp ran the BROOKS HALF MARATHON 2012 and I almost missed it but arrived just-in-time when the traffic to Bukit Jalil from Damansara was smooth. The weather was also good but we were disappointed when we had to waste more than 10 minutes to enter the Stadium. There was only one small lane to enter the Stadium for the flag-off and people were climbing up the gates when the queue was terribly bad.

I had retired from running more than 10km distance since the Melbourne St George full marathon on 10.10.10 in Australia. My knees were too painful and I refused to agree on the knee surgery. After almost 2 years of staying celibate from running, I was more than excited to run today. Upon my arrival at the Stadium, I saw many recruits from the Chief's Original Bootcamp.

The runners from the Chief's Original Bootcamp that ran today were Colin Chong Wern Loong, Lorrine C. Xavier, Dixon Thum, Tan Mein Mein, Advance Tan, May Lyn Wong, Adam Heng, Patricia Lim, Dalyn Nunis, Sarah Tan, Abdul Fattah Mokhtar, Affiq Zakie, Shazni Az, Ali Rahimi Ferdosinezhad, Jadite Liew, Kenny Lock Heng Weng, Afiza Abdul Halin, Tan Wee Liam, Maslina Ahmad Ismail, Jeffery Wong, Viki Lim, Lick Hau Loo, Sabrina, Jorge Arena, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob,  Luyen Ow, Noor A. Othman, Anis Ramli, Janice Wee, Eric Chang, Freda Liu, Faizul Zainol, Syamala Pillay, Yalin GM, Loo Lick Wei .. (who else did I miss?). Sorry I was only able to take this picture with my blackberry but I had also search and find some pictures from Tey Eng Tiong Facebook (our pro papparazzi) but will continue to update the blog as and when I discover more pictures.

The Brooks was also the maiden 21km race.. aka Half Virgin for Dixon Thum, Ali Rahimi Ferdosinezhad, Sarah Tan, Kenny Lock Heng Weng, May Lyn Wong, Freda Liu... and also the maiden 10km run aka semi virgin for Patricia Lim Poh Kam, Jorge Arena, Lorrine C Xavier.... Soon, there will be no semi and half virgins at COBC and all will be a qualified runner.

COBC RUNNERS: TRAINING FOR RUNNING

Its the best weekend to end the month of January 2012! In January, we completed at least 12 COBC training session, at least one running (more for some) event (Mizuno Wave) and one LSD (Long Slow Distance) to achieve our new year resolution. What is our New Year resolution again? Yes for the season runners, at least ten races including at least 1 full 42km marathons. For beginners, 10 races with at least one 21km races. Why the runs? Yes!! it act as an injection to our motivation and focus for us to train harder at our regular COBC training. Almost 30 of us gathered at Bukit Aman car park..

Spotted Wai Yee Chan, a Pilates instructor at the Fitness First and was a recruit at COBC where Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Rose Emini Pahamin, Luyen Ow, Ryan Wong and me used to train together. Now Wai-Yee is with the 'Auntie Hottie' runners?

With a lot of new runners, the objective of today's run is to learn to pace! As a rule of thumb, a good long distance running pace is a speed that we are able to comfortably chat and talk without panting or losing breath. Many runners that did not know how to pace, would end up over speeding beyond their heart & lung capacity and muscle endurance. As a result, they end up walking half of the total targeted distance or give-up half way before the end or continued running in pain with muscle ache and crams. Speed for long distance requires a slow progression and this is what the weekend run is all about.

MBW TAEKWONDO FESTIVAL 2011 (SPARRING & POOMSAE CHAMPIONSHIP)

Kepong, 13 November 2011. Wong Siew Pang or more popularly known as Master Ben Wong (MBW) organised its first and biggest Taekwondo festival this year with three main event being contested under Sparring, Poomse and Destruction (breaking planks with fancy moves). There were three age divisions under sparring competition with age group category for 7 to 9 years old, 10 to 13 years old and 14 to 18 years old. This first Taekwondo festival had attracted more than 300 students.

There were 10 students of various categories competed under the DDF Taekwondo Academy whose President, Master Daing or full name Daing Daniel Fitri is also the highest ranking instructor at the Australian base, 20 years old military-inspired group outdoor training program, CHIEF'S ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP. Daing Daniel Fitri or more popularly known as Staff-Sarge (COBC) (P) Dann by the COBC fraternity was the protege of Master Ben Wong and was Malaysia former Gold Medalist for Taekwondo. Master Ben Wong is a 7th Dan Black Belt and one of the 8 Taekwondo Grandmaster in Malaysia. At his prime, Master Ben Wong was World Top 3 best Taekwondo fighter and was nicknamed the Malaysia Tiger. Master Ben Wong was also a former coach for Malaysia Taekwondo team.

STANDARD CHARTERED KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2011

Kuala Lumpur, 26 June 2011. Today was Standard Chartered's third year as the main sponsor for the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon, Malaysia's biggest marathons and in just a short span of 3 years, I have to give this year's Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur International Marathon a two thumbs and 2 toes up!!! I have ran more than 60 races in the past 8 years and this was the best organised race that I have participated. Everything from registration, race-number, vest & goodie bag collection to the last point of medal and left-luggage collection was so well organised.

Baggage left-area.
The event organiser was Golazo Sdn Bhd and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). It is sanctioned and supported by the relevant international and local sporting authorities – the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Malaysia Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU), Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association (FTAAA), International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF), Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and National Fitness Council (NFC). The race is also fully supported by the title sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank (Malaysia) Berhad.

The organiser prepared sufficient toilets throughout the race route, many water stations, a lot of free-flow both water and isotonic drinks at water stations, bananas enough to feed the whole Zoo, very cheerful and energetic supporters, pretty and sexy cheer leaders (which had slowed me down substantially), first aid people were scattered everywhere, many ambulances, marshals were seen at every corner, perfect distance markers and good signage.... to top up the good weather!!

BOMBA RUN 2011, LARIAN BERSAMA BOMBA 2011

EXERCISE WHILE TRAVELING..

I KNOW..... I know.... consistency is a necessity especially to maintain a good workout momentum and fitness stamina. Although I have missed a few bootcamp sessions and many run-training having had to travel oversea for work but I tried to workout on my own which requires more discipline and commitment. This is harder when the travel companion whom only know Food & Sleep Inferno!!

Waking up in the morning was easy without the need for any alarm or wake-up call. I was awake as early as 5am and was ready for exercise by 5:30am!!! Sarge Dann had prepared some own-workout program for me but traveling is taxing on the energy & mojo that I had to modify the program to suit the 'environment'. For a start, I went for a slow jog cum running until I found a playground for kids which gave me this wicked idea of a good workout program.

MALAKOFF 12KM RACE...

.

Recruits at the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ BU/USJ1 had become an adrenaline addict and could not stop running running races!!! Those that ran the MALAKOFF 12km race on 19 December 2010  were John Chuah, Joe Liew, Chun Chia Kai, Joannita Zaleha Yusof and Wong Siew Peng, Freda Liu and Jun King. Others did not participate as most of them came for Aaraf's 8th Bootcamp Birthday party.

Joe Liew completed his 12km run in 1 hour 4 minutes..

Joe Liew whom was a runner-virgin began running after joining the ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ BU/USJ1... Joe Liew is also a Virgin BLOGGER.. Click HERE for his blog.

The Malakoff race was Joe Liew's 6 races this year.

PENANG BRIDGE INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2010

.

It was an anti-climax to actually re-checked and saw my BIB REGISTRATION for Penang Bridge International Marathon was for 10km run instead of the planned 21km half marathon. Some miscommunication or misunderstanding in registration but I was all excited again when Lilian Lee said she has extra 21km men's bib from her friend whom FFK'ed the last minute.

We left KL and drove to Penang in a convoy of 2 cars after the Saturday trial session at ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP @ USJ1. OBC @ USJ1 was launched on 18 November 2010 with the same energy and hyper-active trainers and recruits from OBC-BU. Both OBC-USJ1 & BU is open for online registration at www.hooyah.com.my. All registration must be submitted online.

There were 24 of us from OBC @ BU & OBC @ USJ1 that ran the PENANG BRIDGE INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2010. There were Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Rose Emini Pahamin, Selly Selina, Ilyanna Aylin Ayob, Armin Baniaz Pahamin, Chun Chia Kai, Daing Daniel Fitri @Sarge Dann, Ody Nurfuadi Ruzalli,  Rienna Choo, Syed Mahadzir Syed Manshor, Ryan Wong, Lilian Lee, Nyna Mohsen, Farhanah Bamadhaj, lizza Abdul Rahim,  Suriana Saiful, Amy Ho, Joe Liew, Yvonne Chen Ling Sze, Azlan Ramli, Norliza Affandi, Baharian Bahadom and Freda Liu. LIzza Abdul Rahim did not plan to run but she could not resist the temptation when Natassya Lee gave Lizza her 10km bib. Natassya Lee.. somehow... FFK'ed too. My 10km bib was given to Azlan Ramli when I took Lilian Lee friend's 21km bib.

The 2 car convoy that left with me comprised of Rose Emini Pahamin, Nawal Aini Zulkifli, Syed Mahadzir Syed Manshor and Aaraf Eid Pahamin in my car and Azlan Ramli, Lizza Abdul Rahim, Farhanah Bamadhaj, Suriana Saiful Yazan, Chun Chia Kai in Azlan Ramli's Alphard.

TERRY FOX RUN

The ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP MALAYSIA @ Bandar Utama was one of the contributors for the Terry Fox Run that was held today at the Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. Last month on 20 October 2010, we had approached our fellow bootcampers at Bandar Utama to run and raised fund for cancer research under "Team Bootcamp Bandar Utama". Click HERE for details.

The run was only for 5km and there were many recruits that ran their first race including Aaraf Eid Pahamin & Kasih Iris Leona. We left our house at 8am after bidding farewell to Sista Dr Teratai Edithy Pahamin, Shazrul Asari and Shazrai whom left back for London after 2 weeks of holiday in Malaysia. The race was scheduled to start at 9am but Team BOOTCAMP @ Bandar Utama had all scheduled to meet at the field for a photos-shoot... obviously! we are a bunch of camwhores.

After illegally parking our car near the Istana Budaya, we walked to the starting position and arrived at the meeting-point to see dozens of others from OBC-BU that had already arrived.
